Itinerary


 

Day 1: ARRIVE BERGEN

On arrival, pick up your rental car at Bergen Airport Flesland.  Drive yourself to the hotel in Bergen. Day free for leisure in Bergen.

Day 2: BERGEN – FLÅM

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, depart from Bergen and drive via Dale to the town of Voss. Descend the Nærøy Valley, passing the amazing Stalheim Canyon, to the fjordside village of Flåm. From Flåm start your cruise (return trip) along the narrow Aurlands and Nærøy Fjords, both branches of the Sogn Fjord – the longest and deepest fjord in the world. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of cascading waterfalls, sheer mountain cliffs, snow-clad peaks, and a variety of wildlife. Disembark in Flåm where you are in walking distance to your hotel.

Day 3: FLÅM

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, board your train for an exhilarating ride on the amazing Flåm Railway to Myrdal, a masterpiece of engineering ascending 2,838 feet in less than one hour. The descent from Myrdal to Flåm offers opportunities for photo shots of some exciting waterfalls and mountain scenery. Continue by boat. The journey goes out from Aurlandsfjord and into the Naeroyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe. The Naeroyfjord is now included on UNESCOs famous World Heritage List. Surrounded by mighty mountains of up to 6,000 feet high, this branch of the Sognefjord is amazingly beautiful. On the journey there are views of the small traditional farms. Return to Flåm by the same boat.

Day 4: FLÅM – GEIRANGER

Breakfast at the hotel. Continue your tour by driving to Fodnes for your ferry to Manheller (not included – direct payment) and drive along the scenic route, passing the Jostedal Glacier, the largest in Europe, to the village of Skei. Descend to the beautiful Nord Fjord, making a detour at Olden to visit the world-famous Briksdal Glacier (included). The journey up to the glacier will be made in open cars to give you the best of views. Afterwards continue via Loen and Stryn to the picturesque village of Hellesylt. From here you go on board the ferry for the one hour’s cruise along the spectacular Geiranger Fjord, possibly the most impressive of all the Norwegian fjords. During the cruise you will pass close by some magnificent waterfalls, such as the Bridal Veil and the Seven Sisters. Arrival in Geiranger and drive to the hotel.

Day 5: GEIRANGER

Breakfast at the hotel. Day free for leisure in Geiranger. We recommend a visit to Geianger Fjordcenter (not included). With exhibits based on the lives and livelihoods of the people of the Geirangerfjord, Geiranger Fjodsenter offers a unique and rewarding insight into the history, the colorful people and the fabulous natural scenery of the area. The very latest technology is used to bring you information about the local flora and fauna, geological features including landslides and landslide areas, hydro-electric power development, road building, tourism and transport, folk life and nature. The interactive multimedia exhibit “From Mountain to Fjord” will show you the stunning natural World Heritage Site as it appears through the four seasons of the year. You will be told this fascinating story and experience all the natural and cultural wonders of this outstanding area – all in the same place and at the same time.

Day 6: GEIRANGER – ÅLESUND

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Eidsdal for a short ferry crossing (not included – direct payment) to Linge before reaching the famous Road of the Trolls. Surrounded by high peaks this mountain road has its name from the old folk tales of trolls and dwarfs. Continue west to Ålesund. Ålesund is built right out into the Atlantic Ocean at the center of a group of islands. In 1905 it was devastated by fire but was rebuilt within 3 years in the fashionable style of the time, Art Nouveau. East of the town center a winding road climbs through a lovely residential district to the top of Mount Aksla, a promontory overlooking the town and ends at Fjellstua (the Mountain Lodge) from which there is a stunning view of the town and the various islands.

Day 7: ÅLESUND – BERGEN 

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Ålesund and drive to Magerholm for your ferry to Ørsneset (not included – direct payment) at the arms of the Storfjord. Drive along the Jostedal National Park with the famous glaciers, the largest of mainland Europe, on one side and the shores of the Nordfjord on the other. Once again it becomes clear why the Norwegian fjords been designated one of the most attractive destinations in the world. Continue via Stryn, Skei and Førde to Lavik to cross the well-known Sognefjord by ferry, to Oppedal (not included – direct payment). Continue to Bergen.

Day 8: BERGEN – STAVANGER

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive from Bergen via Osøyro to Halhjem. A 1-hour ferry crossing to Sandvikvåg (not included – direct payment), before you continue along the coach on the island Stord. From Skjersholmane you cross the new tunnel to Valevåg. Ferry crossing Arsvågen – Mortavik (not included – direct payment). Pass the tunnel to Randaberg, before you arrive in Stavanger. Stavanger is known as a trading center for petroleum refinery and the building of oil platforms. In the city center, close to the harbor and the cathedral, you will find the original Stavanger with its narrow streets and white frame houses.

Day 9: STAVANGER

Breakfast at the hotel. Day free for leisure. Stavanger is not just a nature-based destination: you can also experience culture and authenticity. We recommend a visit to Old Stavanger, which comprises 173 wooden buildings from the turn of the 18th century. Most of them are small, white cottages. Stavanger has also received several awards for its efforts to preserve Old Stavanger.

Day 10: STAVANGER – OSLO (455KM)

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning departure from Stavanger and travel through the region of Telemark. Its natural scenery, reliable climate and rich cultural traditions make Telemark one of Norway’s most popular holiday destinations. Telemark is world famous for the skiing technique of the same name. Stop en route to visit the wooden stave church in Heddal (not included), the largest of Norway’s surviving stave churches, the oldest part of the church, the chancel, dates back to 1147. Continue to Oslo.

Day 11: OSLO DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out from the hotel. Drive from your hotel to the airport for your departure flight. Drop off rental car at Oslo Airport Gardermoen. .

Payment is by voucher, but the client must guarantee with own credit card when picking up car.
