Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Hanoi

We meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel for check-in. Today is free for you to rest or explore at your leisure, discovering your own first impressions of Vietnam. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2: Village Excursion

We travel a short distance from Hanoi to nearby villages and learn about the villagers’ lives, traditions, customs and foods.

On foot and by bicycle, we visit local markets, traditional houses, their temples, and communal houses.  Before our lunch at one of the family homes here, we are treated to a cooking demonstration.

In the afternoon we set out from Dong Ngac, cycling on mostly rural lanes through surrounding villages to Lien Mac, a beautiful area of immaculately tended vegetables and flowers. Here you will get a close-up look at the colorful fields and have the chance to chat with some of the local people out caring for their crops.  After taking another route from Lien Mac back to Dong Ngac, you’ll have a short break for a drink at your host family’s home, bid your farewells, and be transported back to your hotel in Hanoi.  Dinner at local restaurant.

Day 3: Hanoi – Ha Long Boat Excursion

Leaving after breakfast, we arrive at the port of Ha Long around noon. On board, you will have a chance to settle in to your cabin before the trip briefing. Fresh, local seafood lunch will be served while you cruise to Bai Tu Long Bay.  Stop for a swim and a visit to the mysterious cave. Relax at our secluded island beach or explore by kayak. Enjoy the sunset, dinner and overnight on board.

Day 4: Explore Bai Tu Long bay, back to Hanoi –  fly to Hue

Early risers can enjoy the sunrise and the quiet, breath-taking beauty of the  karst landscape. After breakfast, we are treated to a short row around the bay by local boatmen and a swim in the bay. We enjoy a leisurely lunch on our boat as we cruise back to port and make our way back to Hanoi.

Day 5: Hue

Our first stop of the day is to the Imperial city to learn all about the royal kingdom here in the past. We will then embark 0n a boat ride along the Perfume River, with a stop at Thien Mu pagoda.

Our  downstream journey will continue, with pleasant views of riverside villages and an on board lunch.  In the evening, we will participate in a royal cooking class at Ancient Hue,

Day 6: Hue – Royal Tombs, Market and Hoi An

Hop on a cyclo to visit Dong Ba market,  then go on to explore the Ming Mang and Khai Dinh Royal Tombs.  Dine in royal style at a local restaurant.

After lunch, we head for Hoi An, making stops along the way at  Lang Co Beach, Hai Van Pass, Cham Museum, and the Marble Mountains depending on time. Overnight in Hoi An. Tip: This is a very good chance for you to get great tailor-made clothes at reasonable prices. Hoi An is well known for its tailoring.

Day 7: Countryside Tour and Ancient Hoi An

Start the day with a boat ride to a local fishing village where we experience the daily routine of the fishermen, from preparing tools to actual fishing.  Relax as you are rowed in a basket boat along the waterfront before lunch at a local home. Post meal we mount bikes for a cycle along country roads through fields of rice, coconut and corn on our way to Hoi An.

Visits to cultural site in Hoi An round out the day.   Dinner at local restaurant

Day 8: Saigon City Tour

Transfer  to the airport in Danang for an early morning flight to Saigon. Go straight from the airport to the Cu Chi outdoor museum to learn about the infamous tunnel systems of the Viet Cong. Take this opportunity to get a unique understanding of the guerrillas’ underground fighting strategies during the war. Crawl through 50 to 100 yards of the 125 mile tunnel system if you dare. On the way back to Saigon, visit a local rice paper workshop and take in views of the Vietnam countryside.

In Saigon, continue with a visit the War Remnants Museum, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the historic Central Post Office.

Day 9: Saigon – Mekong Delta

Journey outside of Saigon to see Mekong Delta life around My Tho. Drift down the busy branches of the Mekong and into its peaceful canals. Visit an island orchard, and experience daily life of the farmers here. Try exotic seasonal fruits unique to the region and explore the quiet island on foot.

Take a local cruise, stopping to learn how to make coconut-candy. Visit a bee farm to try some local honey with rice wine or tea then head back to Saigon. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 10: Departure Saigon, Goodbye Vietnam

Breakfast at hotel. Depending on your flight you may have some more time for shopping. Then we will transfer you to the airport for your flight home. G
