Our Expedition takes us to Norway’s far north, deep into the Arctic Circle, to Spitsbergen. Spitsbergen is the only permanently populated island in the northern Norwegian archipelago. We sail through this world of pack ice, beluga whales and polar bears, spectacular alpine peaks and glacial valleys,.
Daily shore excursions give us the opportunity to spot seals, reindeer, foxes, and scores of species of birds amid an abundance of exquisite tundra flowering plants. Majestic mountains tower overhead as we cross migration paths of polar bears.
Weather permitting, we may visit a 350 year old whaling settlement and trappers’ huts, and round South Cape to sail north toward Hornsund and Bellsund, an area of deep fjords with stunning glaciers and wildlife.
